What does it mean to have a Native Garden?
By our definition, a native plant is one that has been growing wild in North America before European settlement. It is a plant unaltered by artificial breeding or selection. All plants are native to some local region, and removing them from this setting to another garden elsewhere, the plant is then called an "exotic." There is really no difference between the requirements for growing natives and those for growing exotics in the garden. Oftentimes, planting natives in your space will result in less maintenance, greater biodiversity and ultimately more savings for you.
